20th October, 2008 - King Athelstan Playground Equipment
King Athelstan Primary School pupils made sure The Worshipful the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston, Councillor David Berry, got to know the ropes when he officially opened their new playground equipment on October 14th. The wooden “Trim Trail” is a fun/fitness circuit installed on a safe rubber surface which will provide Key Stage Two children with an environment both for learning and play. Emily Newton, Head Teacher has stated that the School’s aim is to increase the opportunities for physical activity as well as engage the children in purposeful, creative and collaborative play. Pictured with The Mayor are President Lynda Rowland from Surbiton Rotary Club and President Peter Thompson from Kingston Rotary Club, whose clubs have donated money towards this equipment. The children are very excited about the trim trail and have said they will use it every break time.
A wooden tree seat, manufactured, painted and installed by a Kingston Rotarian, will be used by Key Stage One children to provide a much needed shady place to sit in summer. End.
