Youth Speaks 2010

 

ANOTHER HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL  PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

 

 

Wednesday 3rd February saw seven Kingston schools plus Kingston College competing in our annual Kingston Rotary Youth Speaks competition.  Kingston College, Coombe Girls School, Kingston Grammar School, Richard Challoner School, Tiffin Girls School, Surbiton High School and Coombe Boys School, Tolworth Girls School.

Competing in the Arthur Cotterell Theatre at Kingston College the subjects discussed ranged from 'Whats in a name?'  to ‘Bad laws should be broken’.  Summing up lead judge Mr Robin Hutchinson praised the very high standard reached by all those participating

 

Below are the results of our 2010 Competition.

The winning team was Kirushthiga Naguleswaran, Zoe Childs, & Lucy Johnston from Coombe Girls

Runners up were Ellie Horne, Clementine Budd, & Lucile Taylor from Tiffin Girls,

Best speaker was Zoe Childs and Best chairperson was Kirushthiga Naguleswaran both from Coombe Girls

Best vote of thanks was given by Owen Cain from Richard Challoner.

A special merit award went to Richard Vaughan from Richard Challoner.

An adjudicators special prize went to Edward Brushwood of Kingston College

 

The teams received their prizes from our Guest of Honour Past Mayor Peter Gray, who is also a Governor of Kingston College.

Unfortunately neither of our teams will go forward to the District Final which will be held on 26th February in the Adrian Mann Theatre at Nescot College, however we wish all the other teams good luck.   The winning team from each District will then compete in a Regional Final and finally a National Final to be held on Saturday 8th May 2010 at Stratford-upon-Avon High School, Alcester Road, Stratford-upon-Avon, CV37 9DH.
